BGiC provided me with a voice in the cyber/information security industry through valuable mentorships and education as a part of the 2021 Security Cohort. Becoming a Black Girls In Cyber Community member has been a very positive experience for me. It has been a pleasure to learn and grow through witnessing and participating in the growth of BGIC. When you have a leader that empowers you to take control of your future, you feel like there is nothing you can't do. That is what BGiC has done for me. It has been simply priceless." Transitioning to cybersecurity from a 14-year healthcare career was a colossal leap…but working with BGiC has given me a network of opportunities that I would otherwise be lacking.

For the past five years, I have worked as a recreational therapist. In 2021, I decided I needed a career change and wanted to transition into cyber security. I began looking into various resources and found an informational session about BGIC. I immediately knew this was something I wanted to be a part of and also knew I needed to apply to join the 2021 Cohort. BGIC quickly adapted and offered me the opportunity to participate in a free virtual training session for the Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK), which also included the voucher for the exam. In January 2022, I quit my full-time job as a recreational therapist. After receiving constant “no’s” immediately after submitting my application to various cyber security roles, BGiC helped me obtain my first “yes.” In January 2023, I started my first security role at Optum! I am super grateful for the referral, and my confidence needed that opportunity. Grateful is an understatement to express just how much BGiC has changed my life, and I will continue to spread the word to others so they too can become a BLACK GIRL IN CYBER."

As a member of the Black Girls in Cyber cohort and someone who has a background in finance and healthcare, I was empowered by the entire executive team to succeed throughout the program with educational webinars, career resume-building sessions, and great material to pass the Security + exam and to be successful in my career. I was the first in my class to pass. These are ladies that look like me and are excelling in their careers. And my goal is to join them one day."
